Frozen storage cold room

Frozen storage cold room

Turnkey storage rooms at −18 to −25 °C for meat, fish and frozen food: thick panels, floor insulation, heated door.

Highlights

  • −18 … −25 °C room temperature
  • 120–150 mm thick PUR / PIR panels, with the floor insulated as well
  • Floor insulation with XPS or panels, non-slip finish on request
  • Heated door gasket and frame; the door does not freeze or stick
  • Split or central unit with low-temperature compressors
  • Electric defrost, smart interval control
  • Crankcase heater and phase protection for the compressor; speed-controlled EC fans
  • Continuous temperature logging; SMS or e-mail alert on deviation
  • Pressure relief valve, emergency release on the inside

Applications

  • Meat and poultry processing
  • Fish and seafood
  • Ice cream production
  • Frozen food logistics
  • Ready meals and catering
  • Buffer storage for bakeries and pastry shops

A frozen storage room keeps products below −18 °C; for meat, fish, ice cream and other frozen foods the room is usually set between −18 and −25 °C. Compared with a chilled storage room, the panels are thicker, the floor is insulated as well and the door gasket is heated; these are not optional. If any one of them is missing, condensation and icing begin, and both energy consumption and the risk of breakdown rise.

Panels, floor and door

The walls and ceiling use PUR / PIR panels 120–150 mm thick. The floor is insulated with XPS boards or panels; under an uninsulated floor the ground freezes over time and heaves. Depending on the load, a non-slip finish can be laid on top. A heating element in the door frame warms the gasket, so the door does not ice up and stick; a pressure relief valve lets the door open easily, and there is an emergency release on the inside.

Refrigeration unit

The compressors are chosen to run at a low evaporating temperature: a split system for medium volumes, a central system with several compressors for large stores. Electric defrost with smart interval control starts only when ice has built up. The compressor is protected by a crankcase heater and phase protection, and the speed of the EC fans is adjusted to demand.

Control and logging

The room temperature is logged continuously; in the event of a temperature deviation, a door left open or a fault, an alert is sent at once by SMS or e-mail. The records can be used as documentation in HACCP inspections. The table below shows the typical range; the room size and the refrigeration unit are calculated for each project and quoted.
