A chilled storage room is a positive-temperature cold room that keeps products fresh without freezing them. It operates between 0 and +10 °C, and the set point is chosen for the product: fruit and vegetables, dairy, delicatessen or pharmaceuticals. The room consists of the refrigeration unit, insulated panels, a door and a control system, and its dimensions are worked out for each project.

Panels and door

The walls and ceiling are built from sandwich panels with an 80–100 mm PUR / PIR core; the panels are joined with cam locks without leaving thermal bridges, and the corners are finished with hygienic radiused profiles. The sheet surface is painted galvanised steel, stainless steel or a food-safe coating. Depending on how heavily it is used, the door is hinged or sliding; double EPDM gaskets and an emergency release handle on the inside are standard.

Refrigeration unit

The unit is selected for the room volume and how often the door is opened. For small and medium volumes, a monoblock unit with the compressor, condenser and evaporator in a single housing is preferred; it is mounted on the wall or ceiling and installed quickly. For large rooms a split system is chosen: the condensing unit stands outside and the evaporator inside. Low-GWP refrigerants are given priority.

Control and logging

The digital controller manages the temperature, automatic defrost and the fans. If the door is left open, the temperature limit is exceeded or the compressor goes into fault, an alert is sent by SMS or e-mail; the room can be monitored remotely. Temperature records can be exported as reports for HACCP inspections. The table below shows the typical range; the room size and the refrigeration unit are calculated for each project and quoted.
